Impact Health Sharing: A Review

Impact Health Sharing is a non-profit, non-insurance alternative to traditional health insurance. It is a community of individuals, families, and small businesses who share and pay each other's medical bills.

How Impact Health Sharing Works

When you become a member of Impact Health Sharing, you will first activate your Impact Share account. This is a financial account that you own and manage, and it is used to manage all sharing activities. Once a month, members deposit a specified amount into their account. This amount is unique to you and your household, and it is called your monthly share. Share dollars are then matched and allocated to another member who has an eligible medical bill that needs to be paid.

What is the Primary Responsibility Amount (PRA)?

The Primary Responsibility Amount (PRA) is the annual amount that every member household is responsible for paying before any of their eligible medical bills can be published to the members for sharing. There are four PRA options to choose from to better fit your budget and needs.

What is the Co-share?

The co-share is the percentage of an eligible medical bill paid by the member after the PRA has been met. As an Impact member, once your PRA has been met, you pay 10% of all eligible medical bills. The remaining 90% is published for sharing to the Impact membership. However, the total co-share amount that you are responsible for is limited to $5,000 annually per household.

What is Eligible and Ineligible Bills?

An eligible bill is any bill that is linked to a new accident, illness, or injury, no matter how big or small. If it's new, it's eligible. Ineligible bills include pre-existing conditions. If you were on medications or had any signs, symptoms, testing, diagnosis, or treatment for any medical condition in the previous 36 months before joining Impact, the bills related to those conditions are ineligible to be shared amongst the membership.

What to Expect When You Go to the Doctor

Impact has no network, which means you are free to visit any licensed provider of your choice. After you pay your provider fee, the doctor should submit your bill to Impact directly. Your Impact membership card has everything the doctors need to bill Impact directly.

Is Impact Health Sharing Right for You?

Impact Health Sharing is not right for everyone. If you have a number of pre-existing or chronic conditions, Impact might not be the best fit for you. If you are unsure, I would encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of our enrollment specialists to learn more about your condition and determine if Impact is right for you.

Additional Benefits of Impact Health Sharing

In addition to the above, Impact Health Sharing also offers the following benefits:

  • One wellness visit annually per enrolled member in your household

  • A $150 annual lab allowance per member to use toward a preset list of routine lab work

  • Telemedicine through your Impact membership portal, which means you are able to have unlimited access to licensed medical professionals 24/7

  • Wholesale prescription pricing as an Impact member, you will receive exclusive discounts at the pharmacist of your choice by simply presenting your Impact membership card at the point of sale

Conclusion

Impact Health Sharing is a non-profit, non-insurance alternative to traditional health insurance. It is a community of individuals, families, and small businesses who share and pay each other's medical bills. Impact Health Sharing is not right for everyone, but it is a good option for people who are healthy and do not have a lot of pre-existing conditions.
